17th Annual Residents’ Research Competition

Monday, March 12, 2012 – 16:00–18:00

The Annual Cardiovascular Conference in the Rockies (ACC Rockies, formerly ACC Lake Louise) aims to support and encourage case-based clinical research among cardiology and cardiac surgery residents and fellows. The 2012 Residents’ Research Competition is open to all residents and fellows in training programs in Canada.

Abstract Submission Guidelines:
Competition applicants are invited to submit a one-page abstract that identifies a case-based clinical question. The question can be addressed through basic research, clinical research, or review of evidenced-based medicine. The abstract should explain the research hypothesis and resultant work completed to test the hypothesis.

Deadline for Abstracts: January 15, 2012

Poster Competition:
All applicants are invited to participate in the poster competition, held from 4:00 to 5:00 pm. Applicants will be provided with a board on which to display their poster and present their research to the judging panel. The winning poster presentation will be announced on Tuesday morning at 8:00 am.

Oral Presentation Competition:
Three competition finalists will be selected to deliver 15-minute oral presentations (10 min. + 5 min. questions) of their research before a distinguished panel of ACC Rockies faculty from 5:00 to 6:00 pm. Finalists will be notified by Friday, January 20, 2012. Each finalist will receive funds from a restricted grant to cover travel, 2 nights accommodation, and conference registration. The winning oral presentation, which will be announced on Tuesday morning at 8:00 am, will also be delivered during a conference plenary session on Wednesday, March 14, 2012.
